New National Regulatory Entity for Gas and Electricity

On July 4, 2025, the National Executive Power officially established, through 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐞 452/2025, the creation of the National Regulatory Agency for Gas and Electricity, a key measure in the process of reorganizing the Argentine regulatory system.

This new agency will unify the functions previously carried out by 𝐄𝐍𝐀𝐑𝐆𝐀𝐒 and 𝐄𝐍𝐑𝐄, with the goal of optimizing resources, simplifying structures, and raising regulatory standards in line with the recommendations of the OECD.

1. It will operate 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐝𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠í𝐚 (Energy Secretariat) 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 Economy, and will have functional, legal, and budgetary autonomy.
2. It will be responsible for the 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫vision and control of public services for the transportation and distribution of natural gas and electricity throughout the country.
3. The Board will be made up of five members with experience in the energy sector, selected through a competitive process.

The implementation of the new agency must be completed within 180 days from the publication of Decree 452/2025. Meanwhile, ENARGAS and ENRE will continue fulfilling their functions.
